How To Set Up Motion Detection

You can set your document up to take pictures when it senses motion. You may want to do this to reduce the amount of data sent to your FTP site (by only sending up photos when the image changes). You can also set up Oculus to act as a kind of Security Camera by having it take pictures when someone walks into the field of view.

The Trigger dialog allows you to set up your document to be triggered by movement. Turn on the Motion Detection check-box to enable the feature. You can choose how often to have Oculus check for motion by using the time pop-up menu. When you do this, Oculus will take a picture and compare it with either the last picture saved/uploaded or the last picture it took. If you compare with the last picture saved/uploaded, gradually changing things will be noticed. Sunrise and sunset are interesting examples of this. If you do not compare with the last picture saved/uploaded, gradual changes will not cause Oculus to take the picture.

You can adjust how much motion is necessary to trigger the picture by moving the Sensitivity slider. In the main window, you can see how much motion Oculus detected and how much is nessary to cause the trigger by looking at the difference bar. The difference bar has a grey and a green section. When the bar turns green, thats when Oculus has seen enough motion to take a picture.

Oculus splits your image into a number of zones. It compares the motion in each of these zones. If the motion level in any of the zones exceeds your selected sensitivity level, the picture will be taken. You can choose how many zones you want Oculus to use by using the Zones pop-up menu.

By using the Document dialog, you can turn on the Show Frame Difference option and see what Oculus sees when it is doing the motion detection.
